Best Type Of Brushes And Combs To Use On Your Dog

Choosing the type of brush or comb for your dog depends on your dog’s coat type.

Here are the best types of brushes and combs to use on your dog.

For Smooth-coated breeds

For smooth-coated breeds such as Boxers, Boston Terriers, Vizlas, Dobermans, Pugs, and French Bulldogs, are the rubber curry-style brush, a grooming mitt, and a bristle brush.

The rubber curry-style brushes can also be used to remove dog hair from furniture, area rugs, and car seats.

For Single-layer, minimally shedding breeds such as Yorkshire Terriers, Poodles, Malteses, and Shitz Tzus.

The fur on these types of breeds gets tangled during shedding which results in matting of their hair.

A metal comb and a slicker brush are the best grooming tools for these types of breeds.

For Double-coated breeds

Short Double Coats- a furminator works quite well. A deshedding brush, Furbliss, a slicker brush, or a grooming mitt are also good choices for this type of coat.

Double-coated breeds

For Medium to Long Double Coats such as the Huskies, Golden Retrievers, and Australian Shepherds to name a few, a steel comb and a slicker brush are best for these types of coats.

*TIP- When grooming double coated breeds, using a high- velocity grooming blow dryer to blow loose fur prior to brushing will help and can also shorten the time when brushing.
